Isn't It Beautiful with Browns?

Isn't It Beautiful with Browns?

It's definitely the season. Grounding, solid and warm, browns are the obvious choice for decorating your home. They are the color of wood and earth and the autumn leaves blanketing the forest floor.

I like to consider some of the principles of feng shui when I decorate my home. Brown is connected to the Earth element and can bring a feeling of stability, nourishment and grounding.

Brown can counteract sparkle and hard surfaces and bring in a homey feeling. If you shy away from color or worry that things can get too bright or garish, brown is your best friend; it's a soft color that is barely there. It always looks rich and always belongs. It shows up when you aren't even thinking about decorating: a wood floor, a cutting board, a picture frame...just about every home has some brown.

I like it best with whites and creams to keep it from getting dark. The white livens it up and makes it fresh and contemporary. This combo is just as classic as black and white, but warmer.

Brown transferware is a wonderful choice for the Thanksgiving dinner table. Representing nourishment, it's no wonder it looks so good!

I have been selling vintage for seven years. All products pictured in this post were available when I wrote this, but most are one-of-a-kind. When they are gone, they're gone!

All photos are my own.
